Movie and Book Review
Everyone is talking about the Video Movie Awards lately, from the crazy performances, to the fabulous outfits, but clearly they are all missing out on something very important…HUNGER GAMES PROMOTION! They finally aired the commercials for their new makeup collection and it looks GLORIOUS! So in honor of the fact that soon we will all be able to have makeup as fabulous as the girl on fire herself I’m taking you all on a journey back to Seem with my review on The Hunger Games.
The story begins with Katniss, a young girl desperate to keep her family afloat in a post apocalyptic world ruled with an iron fist. The impending Hunger Games has the town in a bit of a tizzy, and when Reaping day finally comes Katniss is in go mode. Her little sister Prim is eligible for the draw for the first time and katniss does her best to reassure her that she won’t get picked. Without giving away too much, the results of reaping day leave Katniss as the district 12 tribute along with Peeta and they are whisked off to the Capitol for the games. Along the way, they both encounter many trials before even getting into the Games which is a fight to the death between 24 kids that range in age from 12-18.
The book is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. I simply couldn’t put it down. Katniss is one of the most interesting female leads in a book I’ve seen in ages. Although she is a strong and independent teen that will shoot you with a bow and arrow if she feels it necessary, she is also as vulnerable as the next girl. Yes, there is a hint of a love triangle but its not the center of the story. Its really a piece about a young lady trying to find her way and what girl can’t relate to that. The supporting characters in the book are spectacular as well. Cinna is absolutely amazing and provides great banter with Katniss throughout the series. I could go on for days but more or less everyone in the book is amazing- even the bad guys.
The film was as fantastic. There was one major error in how Katniss came to receive her mockingjay pin- why they felt it necessary to change that I’ll never know but honestly that was my only real compliant about the film. Everything else blew me away. The costumes were as amazing as described in the book, their entrance into the games- AMAZING! The games themselves were as brutal and gory and yet in the midst of it all, the tender moments were perfectly captured. I was a little bit iffy on some of the castings of the characters at first, but every single performance was amazing! My inner book nerd was fawning the entire two and half hours!
Overall The Hunger Games delivered everything a fan could’ve asked for in both book and movie form. If you haven’t read it- GO READ IT RIGHT NOW! And then go see the movie and prepare to have your mind blown!
